Daire Healy
Student
Maynooth University

Dáire graduated from Maynooth University in 2018 with a double BSc. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (1.1). Taking a research internship with Intel, working on complex network research, he realised research was the career for him. Dáire’s interest lies in the intersection of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science particularly the development of data analysis methods and their applications to environmental and humanitarian efforts. Dáire’s PhD focused on developing statistical models to better understand changes in extreme weather events in a changing climate.

Thesis: Mathematical modelling of extreme temperatures in Ireland

Areas of interest: Extreme value theory, Climate analysis, Computational statistics.

12 week training placement: Collaboration with researchers from Met Éireann, developing machine learning models to help predict climitalogical variables to inform weather prediction models.
