My first semester as a CRT student has been eye-opening, challenging and rewarding. The cohort-based structure of the programme has allowed me to make great friends and learn from students of different backgrounds. I have benefitted greatly from collaborating with my peers who have backgrounds in Electronic and Computer Engineering, Physics and Applied Mathematics. I have spent most of my time working in a cross-disciplinary group project in medical imaging and this is, without a doubt, my highlight of the programme to date.
Cohort training and masterclass events have opened my eyes to new areas within data science such as network science and information theory. Enterprise Alliance members have also attended these events and which has allowed us to network ahead of work placement next summer. I look forward to learning how data science research can be put in to practice within industry and to further developing the intangible, non-technical ‘soft skills’ that are so commonly sought after from graduates nowadays.
